In 2009 my wife purchased me a first generation Kindle. I was hooked from day one. I travel a lot and use it everywhere. The screen suffered damaged last year and Amazon offered a replacement for about $60 as it was out of warranty.Since 2009 also received an Apple ipad now as well; but still rely on my kindle for books and magazines.
The Kindle simply offers a superior reading experience.
I have been living outside US and Canada for for the last 7 years. I am currently living in The Hague (Den Haag) so English book stores are rare, the access to reading materials at the click of a button through Amazon is a real luxury for us.
The whole family uses it – daughter age 12 improved here reading, and added several books quickly to her list. Whenever she had the urge to read she would simply ask and upload a new book. This really improved her interest in reading and love of books. She is mildly dyslexic so the large font option and the pacing ‘click, click, click’ gave her great confidence in English and literature. She is currently reading ‘Great Expectations’ for school on the Kindle.
As for my son 7 he also loves the big print and the ability to pick books of his interest – on Dad’s Kindle. Makes him feel like a big boy and is quite motivating for him to read. He is currently reading ‘Toward the Goal: the Kaka story’
My wife reads all my novels faster than me, and adds several to my list. We can share easily.
